Now that Spring has sprung, so to speak, it’s time to prepare your boat again before getting out on the water. Here, you’ll find a short checklist to help ready you for boat season.
First, you’ll want to check the hoses (including the fuel hose) to assure cold weather hasn’t caused cracks or other damage resulting in fluid leaks. And, speaking of proper fluids, check all fluid levels before you attempt to get back out on the water, including power steering fluid, engine oil, coolant and, of course, gas. Air filters should probably be replaced at least once a year, and the spring preparatory season is a great time to do this.
Next, be sure your safety equipment is present and working properly. This includes safety vests/jackets and fire extinguishers, among other equipment. Be sure you also have enough safety jackets for everyone on board.
Finally, reviewing your insurance coverage for your boat is always important. You’ll want to be sure your coverage limits are sufficient in the event of an accident, other damage to your vessel or even if you become the unfortunate victim of theft.
